Sunday (29th) was our last Sunday in our ward. It has been a BYUH tradition to sing Aloha 'Oe to all those who are leaving. They called us up to the front and everyone in the ward sang while the bishopric handed out shell necklaces to us. It was a touching moment which made me realize that I am really going to miss this place.

Later that afternoon Christina and I went over to Britnee's house to make dinner. While we were waiting for some friends to come we played outside on the lawn with some neighborhood kids. I don’t know how this always happens to me but before I knew it I had little Polynesian kids sitting on my feet, which made me fall over. Christina, along with all the kids, dog piled on my back and made my pants slid off ha. I think they liked it so much that when I tried to get up they retaliated by chasing me mercilessly all over the lawn. When the activities were over, and our friend Eric showed up, we had Hawaiian burgers (teriyaki patties with pineapple) and salad. Pie and whip cream were for dessert and when there's whip cream there's a whip cream fight. Christina first sprayed a mustache on my face which started the whole fight. I got Britnee in the face while Crystal ran for cover. Soon we were all "creamed" and sticky. After the fight we went out on the lawn and sang songs to the ukulele and guitar. It was a good Sunday

A Day at the PCC

Saturday (28th) after my test we went to the PCC (Polynesian Cultural Center). we used Christina's employee pass and just walked into the park. we were both really excited to be there! the first village we went to was Aotearoa (New Zealand). we got there just as they were welcoming the chief. they sang traditional songs, danced with poi balls, and did the haka. we got some sweet Maori tattoos on our face. and were on our way to the island of Fiji. a Fijian woman was talking to us about their buildings and how the grandparents are the most important people on the island. they see it as if you didn't have grandparents, then you wouldn't exist. they also performed traditional dance with spears and fans. we walked to the Hawaiian islands and saw our friend Kristen. she told us about taro roots and how they grind them up to make the purple paste they called poi. we were able to sample the poi but because its made fresh everyday it doesn't taste like the real fermented poi at luaus that apparently tastes like wall paper cement. the island of Tahiti was vacant except for the ladies handing out Tahitian Noni soft chew candies which were really good. next was the canoe show. big platform canoes come out with performers from each island on them. Samoa made me laugh when they rocked the boat so hard that the driver guy fell off into the water, oh Samoa. Tonga was probably my favorite island performance. they did a drum show and pick 3 men from the audience to hit the drums and yell out Tongan words. this guy from japan that went up there was hilarious, and had no idea what was going on. Christians friend Leah also gave us a free pineapple delight ha. when we were walking to Samoa a huge black bee made a B-line for my face, both of us screamed and twisted out of its way. we were like our own tourist attraction, the people behind us were laughing. Samoa was really entertaining too. the Samoan man husked and cracked open a coconut, lit a fire in with a dry coconut husk, shaved the coconut and squeezed it to make coconut milk (i couldn't believe how much milk came out), he also explained to us that in Samoa the men cook the meals. the most amazing thing was when 3 guys climbed up a coconut tree like it was nothing. we saw our friend/neighbor Kosh working and she gave us a free coconut. my attempt to open it was in vain ha. i had to have the guy help me pretty much the whole time but i did husk and crack it open, don't worry i got an explosion of coconut and juice all over me!

after Samoa we headed to the bus stop. we were at the bus stop when Britnee and her friend Eric drove up and offered us a ride in his rental mustang. 6 people squished into the 4 seated convertible. i was on Britnee's lap with my legs hanging out the window as we drove to the steak truck next to ted's bakery. the last time i went to this steak truck was with my mom in January and i remembered how good it was, and cheap! we both got steak and devoured it! i love moments like this. when we were finished we hoped back on the bus and headed home. today was an awesome day!

Friday the 27th, Christina and i went to the PCC Night Show called Horizons. we were super excited to go and once the show started i got the chills! the opening ceremony looked a little like the lion king but i hear the show every night from my Hale so it was awesome to finally put a picture to the music. Hawaii was first followed by Tonga. the lively dress and intense atmosphere was felt by all the audience members especially when Aotearoa (New Zealand) came out. with the flared eyes, stuck out tongues, and sharp movements you could tell New Zealand meant business. after New Zealand there was a brief intermission where one of Christians friends, Seth who worked at the night show, came and gave us a 2 free pineapple delight- i love friends with hook ups! when the show resumed Fiji was first, the men did a sweet spear dance. Tahiti is known for the shaking of the hips. i was so jealous, i wish i had Tahitian skills but i really loved watching the dancers. Samoa is always a crowd favorite. they had a fire dancer and he was amazing! i couldn't believe how fast he spun his stick and at one time the flames were just chilling on his feet, ouch! then there were 3 guys with hug skirts on walking across big mats that were on fire and sometimes they would sit on them it was a funny part of the show.

Thank you prince Kuhio for being born and making March 27 a state holiday! Today (Thursday) we didn’t have any school! So Christina, Alecia, Britnee, Eric, David, Cody, Bo, Chris, Phil, Rachelle, Andres, and I went on a hike to Malaekahana Falls. It was a big group of people but we broke off into smaller groups as the hike commenced. It was a long and steep hike with a lot of mud towards the end. When we reached the top of the mountain we took pictures as people climbed a vertical log. I laughed so hard when Christina jumped off a stump, tripped, and bounced off her knees only to slide her face across the dirt. I love that girl. Climbing down to the falls was treacherous; to combat the muddy slop you had to grab onto the bamboo like trees for stability and to prevent you from jetting off the mountain. In my case the tree was a life saver when I slipped and swung like a pendulum and got mud smeared down my leg. I didn’t know until we reached the falls that we had hiked to the top of the falls and the only way to the bottom was jumping off the 17 foot cascade into the cool spring. I have never fallen from such a height before but with the mentality of “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security is mostly a superstition. It doesn’t exist in nature" (Helen Keller), I jumped. I didn’t scream until I was about 2 feet above the water which is probably the reason why I swallowed about a buckets worth of water in my mouth and through my nose. Almost everyone jumped too, even Christina! Hiking back I ended up in a group I with Britnee, Eric, and Bo. We sang Disney songs almost the whole way down.

Not long after we were back in our Hale were we on the road again to Turtle Bay to play beach volleyball. Almost everyone on the hike was there minus Britnee, Eric, Phil, and Rachelle. We waited patiently for the net to free up while passing the ball around. When we were passing Christina, once again, full on tripped over a rope with both feet flying behind her as her body did a spread eagle impersonation, making a nice crash landing. This time she took down the entire group, everyone was on the ground laughing I almost pee’d my pants. When we finally got the net the hotel took it down, just my luck. It didn’t really matter because everyone was pretty exhausted from hiking and running in the sand. Christina and I went home and watched Kung Fu Panda in our room and relaxed our worn out bodies

this weekend we spent in Waikiki, our adventure was hilarious. Friday (20th) Christina, Rachelle, Hayley, Britnee, and I all hopped on the bus headed to the Ala Moana mall in Waikiki. we were chatting when the bus came to an abrupt halt. our bus driver had just hit a car, ha of course we would be on that bus. we got off the bus and walked to another bus stop while being led by a crazy guy saying "I'm a christian man but I'm going to start swearing soon". we were rushed onto another packed bus and found our seats toward the back. we didn't realize until we were seated that we were located in the senior citizens section. everyone back there was old, "I'm between 75 years and death". 3 elderly couples from Canada were here on vacation and they were quite a hoot. we talked with them all the way to Waikiki. one of the guys, in regards to swimming in the ocean said, "I'm not getting in that water, whales have sex in there" as you can probably tell we had a funny time.

when we reached the mall we started off on the trek to our hotel, The Holiday Inn. we checked into our hotel and got ready for the beach. Christina, Hayley, Rachelle, and i , to save room in our backpacks, didn't bring towels so we had to use the white hotel towels. we didn't want to look suspicious with our obvious towels so we thought the stairs would be a good idea. i didn't realize before i opened the stair door that it said, "burglar alarm will sound when open". of course i would set off the alarm in the hotel, Britnee took off running and i was laughing and trying to not look like a fugitive. we quickly walked barefooted to the beach and laid on our stolen towels. after the beach we got ready to hit the streets. it was Rachelle's 21st birthday so we went to P.F. Chang's to celebrate. real food never tasted to good. we rushed through the end of dinner so we could catch the firework show on the beach. the fireworks were really cool, but only lasted 5 minutes. we started walking towards Cold Stone for some birthday cake remix when a group of guys tapped Christina on the shoulder and said, "my friend thinks your loud".... army boys ha. next stop was Macy's and we spent about an 1 1/2hours putting on makeup, trying on shoes, spraying perfume, and posing as manikins. by the end we were ready to head back to our hotel. it was a typical girls party of laughing at crazy pictures, massage train, true laugh, foot scrubs, and more. we were told once more that we were loud by the front desk. probably because at one point we all had jumped on Rachelle when Hayley and Christina fell into the space between the wall and bed laughing.

Saturday (21st) morning. we went to IHOP for breakfast, we were so hungry. a magician came to our table and showed us some magic trick, he even bent a steel fork with his mind powers. our meals come out and we scarfed them down. they even sang happy birthday, off key, to Rachelle. we laughed as we headed to the beach because we realized that we had no towels so we would either have to stand or get really sandy. Christina and i finally made our sandcastle that turned into a pyramid. we ended up laying on clothes and backpacks instead of the intrusive sand. we all fell asleep on the beach, it was so relaxing. we packed up and headed back to the Ala Moana mall. this time we spent some time in the mall walking around. we stepped into Sephora and tried on some lip plumper gloss and our lips were swollen and on fire, no pain no gain. we shopped around some more gawking at new clothes until our bus was scheduled to come. the bus ride was just as eventful going home as it was coming to. the bus didn't get in an accident, but there was a man following some poor Chinese lady on the bus and she let everyone know. we finally reached Laie, and had to stop at Foodland to pick up 3 boxes of brownies for our relief societies visiting teaching bribe.

later that night, after making brownies at Britnee's, we went to culture night on campus. culture clubs perform a dance or skit for all, the Hawaiian and Samoans performances were the best! i particularly liked the Samoans most, you could feel the family honor and pride they have in their culture. it was an adrenaline rush watching then give off such vigor and love for representing something that is very close to their hearts. we knew after that we were going to have a good night sleep after an awesome day.

Saturday the 14th. this morning started off with everyone wishing shark cage diving would be canceled due to the bad weather, much to our dismay it wasn't. 10 of us hopped on the bus and took the ride to Haleiwa where our adventure would depart. we were greeted by our captain and crew member who helped us get situated on the boat. then we hit the high seas, literally, to our destination about 3 miles off the shore line. the waves were extremely huge, going over them made my stomach drop like i was on a roller-coaster. i could compare the waves to the movie the perfect storm, obviously not to the degree in the movie but close enough.

we were given brief instructions on how to enter and exit the cage and then it was time to get up close and personal with the shadows of my nightmares. im going to try my best to explain all the details that went on in the 20 minutes i was in the water. first off we broke into 2 groups of 5 (Britnee, Cody, Hayley, Rachelle, and I were in the 1st group). when the 5 of us were in the water they dropped the cage in and let us float out. the waves were huge and made the cage rock back and forth, which if you weren't holding on to the bars you would go flying to the other side. the water was really murky, i had to strain my petrified eyes to see if there was anything. the types of sharks you typically see at this spot are the Galapagos (roughly 10 feet long) and the Sandbar sharks (about 7 feet long). when the first shark glided by i screamed and splashed around in the cage, which to my knowledge attracts more sharks. the most eerie thing was seeing a dark silhouette pass you then dart away, those little suckers are fast. i was propped up against the bars and plexiglas ,which gave me the impression of zero safety, when i turned around to see a mongo shark pass right next to my clenched fingers, once again i screamed. the sharks know when to come by feeling the vibrations in the water due to the boats diesel engine. when i would come us to the surface, to spit out extra water in my snorkel, i could see a sharks fin at eye level and i kept thinking that one of these waves is going to throw a shark into the cage and make it freak out and then we would all die. there were at least 5-6 sharks in the water when the first group whet in, but i cant say that there were as many for the 2nd group. when we were watching the other group in the water we saw water shooting up off in the distance. in the months of January to March the whales migrate through Hawaii, hence the spouting water.

everyone managed to make it back on the boat with all their fingers and limbs accounted for. the sea was making some people sick so we had to circle around for a bit so they could spew what ever they needed to over the boat. dry land never felt so good for some of us. we walked through Haleiwa in search of food. we stopped at pizza bobs again and ate there. i love Haleiwa i just cant get enough of it! we got back on the bus heading northbound to Laie.

later that night Christina and i , exhausted from the day, watched the 3 hour movie Australia on a whim. i loved it! i wanted to jump right in and live in the outback and have the little aborigine boy be my friend "i just want him to be my grandpa".

Thursday the 12th. today at the cafeteria it was the 50's dinner. sometimes we have themed dinners and this one was fun. we had the twist club come and dance for us while they dished up root beer floats.

Friday the 13th. today was a partially sunny day which meant that half of the school had vacated to the beaches, we went as well. the current was really strong and we watched it inch closer and closer up the beach. pretty soon our stuff was in the bushes for safety from the encroaching waves which had almost consumed all of temple beach.

we headed to the point to watch the waves crash up against the rocks and spray about 20 feet of water into the air. i kept screaming in aw at every wave, we all felt like we were in an amusement park. of course we took about a bazillion pictures, the best were of us being orchestra conductors with the waves crashing in front of us. walking back from the point we ran into our friends david and bryan. their roommate bo had found a baby pig on the side of the road so they were planning on keeping it and having a luau when it got fat. so we went to go see the pig Ono, he peed for about 5 minuets strait before we left (" look its Zuckermans famous pig"- charlottes web).

Here Comes The Sun!

Tuesday (March10th) the SUN came out!!! we have had tropical storms for almost a month and today we got a break. its funny how much the sun can lift peoples spirits. i was literally jumping for joy and Christina actually screamed it. we decided that after devotional we would miss our class to catch the bus to Turtle Bay Resort. we only waited at the bus stop for about 45mins, but when we finally got to Turtle Bay we marked our spot on the beach and played like a tourist. it was such a beautiful day that we actually felt like we were in Hawaii! we swam in the water and walked out to a jagged point on the beach (which was actually an exposed reef). we laughed at the crazy pictures we took that captured a wonderful day.

at 3:30 we headed back to the bus stop and took the journey back to campus. i rushed to the last 45mins of my humanities class while Christina hurriedly got dressed for work. the sunshine didn't last all day. around 6:30p the clouds formed and it poured. when Christina got home from work i asked, "is it raining?" she said, "do you think!" i laughed because she was soaking wet. that night we watched dancing with the stars on my computer, i love Shawn Johnson (Olympian gymnast) and Melissa (rejected fiance of the bachelor)!

today was just what the doctor ordered: a mid-week adventure!

One Week Service Project

Saturday March 7, was the 3rd stake one week service project. they broke up all the volunteers into groups ("divide and conquer") to go and give service to the neighbors outside of campus who had suffered from the December flood. when we reached the house the first thing i pick up is a stick which, little to my knowledge, had 2 huge black bees nesting in it, one stung my finger. OUCH! after that we walked to the temple to help clean up the grounds. this lasted until it started to pour buckets of water on us. i met this funny girl from the Caribbean island Grenada, named Salisha. she guessed that i was from Utah just because i have an accent (do Utahns have accents?). during mother natures shower we were invited by a local family to come and eat, more like pig out on all the food they had made for volunteers passing by. Sosina (the mother off all the food) had rice, mixed vegetables, fruit, spam and onions ("the breakfast of champions" according to Hawaiians), pancakes, scrambled eggs, and scrambled egg whites. more food came while we were there like orange chicken, beef and broccoli, chocolate banana bread, and hot chocolate. this is typical Hawaiians for you, lots of food and happy giving people. it still amazes me the role family members play, sons, daughters, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunties everyone is there and everyone is helping and everyone is happy. when we were stuffed we started walking back to campus in the rain to take a hot shower.

Me, Christina, Hayley, and her friend Rachelle all hopped on the bus and headed to Kaneohe's Winward Mall to see the movie The Confessions of a Shopaholic. we liked the movie a lot! it felt a little sac-religious to go shopping after because the movie was all about kicking the habit, but went anyways ha. we stopped at Starbucks for some white hot chocolate and carmel apple cider before jumped back on the bus and heading home to Laie. the night ended with Christina and I peeling oranges and throwing the peels off the second floor balcony then watching Gilmore Girls and Lost.

Surfing Castles

Friday March 6th, after class David, Britnee, Phil, the Swedish girl, and i went surfing at Castles beach, aka the beginners surfing beach. i really like this beach, the waves aren't ginormous butt the waters not very deep so if you fall off you have to tuck your legs in or you will hit the reef. today when we were paddling out i saw a turtle! i was better at surfing this time then i was last time. one time i got too close to Britnee and she was coming toward me on a wave and i thought she was going to kill me, i jumped off and hid under my board and she went directly over me. i emerged laughing and she was too but she thought she had killed me.i just love being out there, even though it was a stormy day actually its more like a few stormy weeks. we have had crazy rain ever since February which is probably good because it makes me study more. after surfing we all went back to Davids house and had strawberry smoothies and snacks. David also cooked up some SPAM so i could try it. i kept saying it was really soft but it wasnt bad, i didnt find out till later that it contains 24% fat, hence the soft/squishy-ness. David gave Britnee and i a ride home on his motorcycle. ha i had to sit on the grab bar in the back while Britnee was sandwiched in the middle, i tried not to imagine us falling over.

when i got home i studied and took my mormonism exam. last time i went surfing i had a mormonism test and i did really well. today i got an 89%, so i think surfing is my good-luck charm. later i headed to Britnee's house and we did P90X Yoga. for and 1 hour and 30 mins my body was completely contorted and unbalanced, yoga is hard and yet so rewarding.

March 4th (Wednesday) today is the grand opening of the 1st, and supposedly largest, Target store in Hawaii. they are expected to be hiring and estimated 1200 employees for this multiple story structure. everyone on the island is up in a frenzy with excitement over the newest superstore to grace the most metropolitan side of the island of Oahu. i can only hope that someday soon i will be able to see this trademark beauty!

This Week, February 23-28th

Tuesday (24th) second block began, meaning it was time for Hula class. i have only been to class twice but i can already tell that its going to be hard. the names of the steps and steps themselves are strange to a haole like me.

Friday (27th) i still cant believe. i studied, hard core, from 11:00a-5:00p for my humanities test. i know i had help from above because there is no way normal kendall would have been able to have the patience let alone motivation to do such a thing. my reward for being so diligent was getting to watch the movie Twilight for the first time in the schools auditorium. i tried really hard not to laugh too much in the movie but it was extremely cheesy and weird, but i vowed to give it another try...someday.

Saturday (28th) i woke up early and took the multiple choice portion of my test in under 30mins and got an 85%, the essay part took about an hour. i had to take the test early because we were planning on taking the bus to Waikiki, about a 2 hour bus ride. we happen to run into our friend, Kyle, on our way to the bus stop. we invited him, and his car, to come with us and he agreed. Kyle, Christina, Britnee, Javier, Suzy, and me all squished into his car and buckled up for the ride to Honolulu. we had a blast with this group! the ride there christina and i had been telling them about how good Puka hot dogs were. when we arrived in Waikiki everyone agreed a puka dog sounded really good! it was as delectable as the first time and everyone loved them! aftert we walked around downtown and had fun going through the asian market (i bartered with some chinese lady for earrings, each time she decreased by 25-cents until she met my price. it was funny when i put them on because the first thing christina said was, "you look so girlie" ha apparently i look like a man all the time here), going into surf shops, and exploring the ferrari store. we slowly made our way to the beach and i started laughing when i saw the water chuck full of first time surfers, the ocean was littered with them. we walked down the beach a ways till we found a less crowded beach. we hung out and played with Kyle's soccer ball. later on we rented a giant discus looking tube and the 4 of us sailed off to sea, until we realized how hard it was to paddle back to shore. for being a city it was really quiet and serene which made it easy to relax on the beach and watch the stand up paddle surfers glide by. by this time we were hungry again and chose Cheese Cake Factory as our next chain restaurant. we meandered around while waiting for a table. luckily we didn't have to wait long, we got a big round table and were given delicious bread to get the salty ocean out of our mouths (i shouldn't be writing about this on fast sunday ha). i was so excited to have a real salad that i could hardly contain my self. our meals arrived and we dug in, i remember Suzy mentioning, "why isn't anyone talking?" someone answered, "we're busy eating". by the time we left Cheese Cake the streets were busy with entertainers and hordes of people. we found the car and took the long journey home. everyone was exhausted! i LOVE Waikiki

Saturday February 21 was suppose to be our shark cage adventure with the man eaters. the owner called up and said that due to bad weather the trip today would be canceled. all the girls that were suppose to go were ticked, we were expecting something thrilling this weekend and were disappointed. our friend Marisha ,one of the shark members, told us about some byuh students that were going skydiving today "maybe we can just add onto their group". for about an hour we were trying to figure out 1) what to do 2) how many slots were open for skydiving and 3) transportation. some gave up hope but others persevered. we called Skydive Hawaii and asked if we could go today and she said they were booked until tomorrow, we mentioned the byuh group and asked if we could add to that and the lady was like, "oh yes" ha we were in. now we need a ride or we cant go. when we had decided to take the bus a friend called and said he would go and he could drive us.

before we knew it we were on the road. me, Britnee, Christina, Alicia, Lizzy,and Kyle, the driver, were headed to Haleiwa to go jump out of a plane. when i skydived in utah we had to reserve our spot a week in advanced and had to wait at the place for about 2 hours before we were able to go in the plane, hawaii was a little different.

we arrived at the location and the Chinese lady came out and said "you here to skydive at 2:00?" we acted like we knew what was going on and that we knew the other member of the byuh group haha. i like to say that we pretty much worked the system and rode in on the other groups back with out them even knowing we just used them for their spot. she asked us some questions about the other group like when are they coming... we just made up answers. we were signing away our lives on paper while a safety movie was playing- that no one was watching. we didn't have time to pay because our plane was leaving in 15 minuets. keep in mind this whole operation happened in less then 3 hours. we were starting to get nervous now that the awesome fact of jumping out of a plane was staring us in the face. we were all rushed to the plane being told instructions on the way. i wasn't even fully harnessed up my guy , Peter from germany, was cinching my straps as we hurried to the plane.

we had to squish 14 people into the plane, christina and i were pretty much hanging out the open door. the photographer, Sasha also from germany, kept opening the plexiglass door just to make us scream. a couple of us were freaking out in the plane while our instructors were strapping and cinching our harnesses.it was beautiful to see hawaii from 13,500 feet which was the altitude when they opened the door and christina and her tandem jumped at. i was next, head back, arms crossed,ready to scream, and adrenaline pumping we jumped out of the plane and were falling at 120 mph! it was so AWESOME we did 2 backflips out of the plane and were falling through clouds, which were cold and moist. Peter pulled the chute and we glided back down to earth. this was the most beautiful view of hawaii!!! you could see the reef, waves, secluded beached, gorgeous mountains, and crops below. we spun around in our parachute and had a very soft landing. all the girls were laughing with excitement for our spontaneous achievement, and the fact that we were still breathing!

we payed and watched the video Sasha made of Christina falling out of the plane. we were on our way out when we saw our group arriving haha they had no idea. i still cant believe we pulled this off. everyone was exhausted on the drive home, job well done.

Thursday (19) we made a point of going to Walmart today for one reason HSM3-High School Musical! we couldn't believe it when we saw the dvd glistening from its new release shelf. we immediately watched it when we got home, freaking out every time Troy Bolton graced us with his presence.

Friday ( 20) our ward had a BBQ (chicken, macaroni salad, and brownies) and after went to the school production of Seussical the Musical. everyone was really excited to watch it and when i say everyone i mean the entire island including me. its funny to think that if this were going on in Utah i wouldn't be as inclined to go, but here its like what else are you going to do? the cast members did a suburb job and had me laughing pretty much the entire time! we all loved it!

Monday 16th (presidents day) i went on a hike with a group of friends (David, Bo, Britnee, Bryan, and Ashley). the trail was off the side of the road and could only be found by someone who knew where to look, i believe it was called crouching tiger. it was a vertical hike 97.2% of the way, hiking is a lot harder than running ha which means i was dying. when we reached a clearing the wind was blowing so hard that you had to watch your step or you might just get swept off the mountain. i felt like i was on LOST, climbing the mountain trying to look for a signal. i don't know if i can explain the sheer danger-ness of this hike ,but at particular spots the trail was only as wide as your feet with drop offs on either side, don't forget the wind. other times we were on our hands and knees climbing the rock face in attempts to follow the path. "if my dad knew what i was doing he would shoot me so i would die by his hand and not the mountain". i survived and it was worth it, the view was amazing! i could see the valley and reefs that surround this beautiful island. we also saw a whale coming up for air, shooting water out of its blow hole not far off the reef. coming down my legs felt like jello, i thought at times i was just going to jiggle off the mountain side.

at 6:00pm i headed over with Hayley Brady to the leadership Q&A session given by sister Sheri Dew. i love her! she was so awesome and has a funny sense of humor. it was funny because she would say all these important things, which to her she's heard so many times that its really second nature, but to everyone in the audience, who is hurriedly scribbling down every word, is just blown away by her knowledge and skill to convey things so simply.

that night we were invited to our friend Davids house for dinner and a movie. once again its nice to have a home cooked meal especially with root beer floats as dessert!

its been tradition for Sarah and I to go to Maglebys Fresh every valentines at 6 in the morning "we gotta beat the rush, you'll thank me later". since thats a utah original and doesn't exist in hawaii i had to improvise, introducing Hukialu Cafe. this famous cafe houses the original banana pancakes, featured in the hit single "banana pancakes" sung by jack johnson. we woke up at 7am and walked over with some girl friends. Britnee, Christina, Alecia, Lizzy, Hayley, and i all had a wonderful breakfast. the pancakes were the size and density of a pie, dont worry i ate every bite! it was so good to consume food that wasnt conceived in a cafeteria!!!

sunday we made dinner for crystal and britnee. taco salad was on the menu and let me tell you how good it was to a) eat green leafy goodness b) cook ground beef c) chips and salsa were involved (comfort food) and d) grilled ONIONS! ha i love onions. i love hanging out at their house, its nice to get away from campus and hang out in their bungalow on the beach.

Thursday were cleaning check... we passed, but with a warning. apparently my "bed cover" isnt really a bed cover but a bed protector aka a fitted plastic sheet used for small children when they have nightmares and wet the bed haha. next wall-mart trip i have to get a real bed cover or i'll get fined.

today was a WINDY Friday. our friend Britnee called and asked if we wanted to go surfing? we thought why not? its Friday the 13th and the wind has hurricane like force so lets not be superstitious. i felt like a local ditching school to go surfing (i didn't ditch class by the way). the wind was so fierce that you had to hold onto the board with all your might just in attempts to walk down the beach and refrain from smacking the other person with your 6 foot long board. there were 4 of us, 3 girls and David, Christina and i were laughing/screaming trying not fall over due to the wind. the water was really choppy but we still went out. we played out in the surf for about 2 hours and had some good laughs, especially when someone would just fall off their board trying to paddle out, or when they got hammered by a wave. i was sore after just 5 minuets ha its been awhile since those muscles have been used. i got up a few times and was so excited that i would cheer for myself then fall off from throwing of my own equilibrium.

to add to the happiness of today i got an 82% on my Mormonism and world religions test! and for dinner they served chocolate fondue. i do have major bruising on my rib cage and hip bones from the surfboard, no pain no gain- go hard or go home!

so Monday... what a day! first it started off David Archuleta's surprise performance at the PCC (Polynesian cultural center), i wasn't able to see the performance but Christina was there to document it for me.

at 7:00p we headed Alecia's birthday party ,in the lounge, consisting of ice cream and cake. next we were walked to foodland for some groceries, when 2 huge toads jumped in our way and made us scream. we caught one and attempted to kiss it, neither of us had the guts to kiss it so my prince will have to wait. the toad was really soft and squishy! and its little fingers were funny.

on our way back from foodland we saw some guys we didn't know and said hi them. one of them came up to us and was like hey you don't remember me my name is Danielle. he gave us a side kiss (he's from Brazil) this whole time i thought Christina knew him but she had never met or seen him before. he was acting like we were old friends ha. i asked him if he knew how to surf and he said "every one in Brazil is pro surf" so i told him he should teach us how to pro surf! he kissed me on the cheek again for a goodbye then kissed me on the LIPS ahhh. then he went for Christina haha but she knew what was coming, it was a surprise attack for me. we walked home laughing so hard our sides hurt, "we're going to get mono"!!

then for FHE we had our valentines party and played the game "baby, i love you will you please smile for me?". everyone gets in a circle and has a serious look on their face, the object of the game is to make your victim smile. the person in the middle goes up to a member in the circle and says "baby, i love you will you please smile for me" and if that person doesn't crack a smile they have to say "baby, you know how much i love you, but i cant smile for you". i had already lost the game before it had begun, i was smiling and laughing. it was a really fun game and every one was laughing really hard, especially when a guy would choose a guy and make him smile by being seductive!

this weekend was fun. on Friday night we went over to a friend of Hayleys house and made muddy buddies. it didnt look like we were making them right until we put powdered sugar all over them and mixed it up in a plastic bag. i had never tried this delicious treat but i LOVED IT!

Saturday Christina, Britnee, Cody,and I went to try the acai bowls that we have heard so much about. we found them in this cute little shack next to the local foodland, grocery store. they taste like a smoothie with granola, honey, and bananas on top! after our mid-morning snack we went to Waimea Bay Beach. it was so much fun! the waves were so big and strong we actually weren't allowed to swim in the water without flippers on but technically we weren't swimming. we played in the waves for hours and literally had buckets of sand in our swim suites from being pummeled by the waves.

Britnee stayed at the beach with some friends while Cody, Christina, and I continued our adventure to Haleiwa on the bus. we were hungry from playing in the waves so we got pizza at Pizza Bobs! its been over a month since we've had pizza ha. we walked around and went in some surf shops then hopped back on the bus.

that night was foodfest. BYUH every year holds a foodfest which ethnic clubs on campus make and sell food and other activities are available as well. it was really fun! we went to the Fijian club and had a really good curry chicken wrap! then went to the Chinese club for spicy chicken kebobs with a vegetable bowl! it was so lively and full of locals and students. if BYUH puts on any event (like a talent show, play, or foodfest) everyone comes, from all over. with our last 8 tickets (50 cents each) we went to the Tahitian tent for crepes.

we had a lot of laughs with friends as well as great food this week!

Wednesday, January 4, night we went over to Britnee's house and made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and watched the new episode of Lost. i think i ate 12 cookies, i had to make up for a months worth.

when we got back to our Hale i was putting some clothes away when a HUGE brown spider came crawling up the wall, just inches from my face. AHHHHHHH! we screamed and hugged each other while staring at the fate we soon had to face. guess how long it took us to find and kill the intruder...... 45mins. we named him Terry, a combination of terror and tarantula, i dont know why we named him because we hated him so much. he used evasive maneuvers and camouflaging techniques to prolong his life. he crawled behind dressers and jumped off walls onto Christina's rob, that was quickly sprayed with Raid "my robe smells like Raid!". his last place of safety was the night stand, which we moved outside and dismantled. we couldn't find him anywhere, i turned around and then looked back and he was making his escape from the night stand "kill him"!. Christina ran and jumped on Terry, serves him right for breaking my camera. when i told my brother Quinn about this experience he asked how the spider broke my camera i said, " his presence broke my camera".

later that night Christina was interviewing me with her camera and i was relaying the tale when she threw a plastic spider at me, i freaked/screamed, it was just as big and creepy as the one we had just killed. our next door neighbor, Kosh from Malaysia, came over and asked what happened all innocently before she threw a plastic spider at me and i screamed again. i think im arachnaphobic ha

after that ordeal we were getting ready for bed when Larry the cockroach appeared. we were emotionaly and physically exhausted from the spider so we didnt even bother with the roach. its been raining a lot lately so i think thats why creatures of the night are taking refuge in our room.

so i few days ago the secretary, for President Wheelwright, told me that the president and his wife would like to invite me to dinner, and i needed to bring a male friend aka a date. its been a long time since I've asked a guy out, i believe Sadie Hawkins was the last time, so i asked Cody ,a friend from stats class, if he would come with me.

tonight ,Tuesday 3, at 6:30 we had dinner at the presidents house, who lives right on campus. there were 4 couples including us . apparently they have never done this before, having dinner with students, so we were the guinea pigs. i wasn't even nervous! we walked in and had a nice dinner with everyone, then had Hawaii's famous Ted's Bakery Pies for dessert. so far since i have arrived in Hawaii i have been able to take advantage of many opportunities, this is one of them and in a few weeks i have also been selected to attend a leadership conference by Sister Sheri Dew. it must have been written in the stars that"Kendall is to attend BYU-Hawaii winter 2009"

i feel like the BFG (big friendly giant) sometimes. it will be funny to come home and not be the tallest.

This Saturday we went to the swap meet again. our friends Crystal (who has a car) and Britnee came with us. we shopped around and got black shirts with neon writing that said I (heart) Hawaii, apparently neon is the thing in Hawaii. sweating buckets while we walked around the entire stadium (where the swap meet is held), we eventually made it back to our car. we drove to the mall in Kaneohe in search of work clothes for me, better luck next time.

Sunday, after church, we went to Britnee's house and had a HOMEMADE DINNER (its been a month since food was cooked infront of us)! we were totally oblivious to the superbowl while eating our delicious meal!!! we walked on the beach after laughing at how we should make a movie spoofed off the T.V. series Lost, i'd be the pregnant australian. that night Christina and i had a suprise pillow fight that concluded in a search for someone with the knowledge of how to make paper boats so we could float them down the gutters in our Hale(dorm) that were gushing water from the current rain storm

after camping we only spent 2 hours in our dorm until we headed to the bus stop for our next destinations, Waimea Bay Beach. Hayley Brady, a friend from back home who goes to BYUH, spent the day with us. after the beach we headed to Haleiwa aka North Shore and stopped at Cholos for some nachos (mom this is the same place we went). next stop the Dole Plantation. we arrived to a pineapple wonderland, even the walls were pineapple yellow. we tried the famous Dole Whip (pineapple soft-served ice cream).... Oh..My.. Yumminess!!!!! i wanted another cone before i was done with the one in my hand. we walked around the little courtyard and looked at the pineapple bushes, which look like little voodoo dolls or some tribal scare tactic with the head on a stick motif .

on our bus ride back home our friend Britnee called and asked if we wanted to go to the BYUH mens basketball game in Honolulu. when we finally got home we ran in changed and ran out- no shower, beach hair, burnt faces, and sand on our backs- perfume was a needed necessity. we crammed 6 people into a 4 seater car and hit the road. the game was hilarious it was like middle school kids and Space Jam combined. we won! when we got home we crashed on our sandy sheets from exhaustion, but not before eating PB&J graham crackers on the floor. what can i say, we're college students working for the weekend so we have to party it up... no time to flounder.

this weekend was our relief society camping party on the beach. it was really fun! we had BBQ and

smores!!!!!! its funny how smores are like second nature to us but i witnessed many girls consume their first smore, i had to teach them step by step " graham, mallow, chocolate, graham". we played a water balloon tossing game and the losers had to perform. my partner Kristen and i happened to have butter fingers that night, and we forced to dance and sing. Christina and i ,having no camping equipment, slept in a the biggest tent provided by ourselves on a bed sheet. it was the equivalent of sleeping on cement but it was totally worth it because i witnessed the most beautiful sunrise and rainbow the next morning! we had a devotional on the beach and watched the sunrise then turned around and saw the rainbow, i actually saw the end of the rainbow and the pot of gold.

when i was home i never really craved ice cream, candy, or cookies. being away from home makes me want things i never really did before... like cookies. one night i just wanted cookies and nothing else. we walked all the way to Foodland (local grocery store) and bought tinfoil and cookie dough! we made our cookies in the nasty community kitchen and had to use "the shirt off my back" literally as hot pads. we shared some with our neighbors including Gifty, who has never had a cookie before.

So in less than 24 hours i went from jobless to a job. i am now the student assistant to the President of Brigham Young University Hawaii! can you belize it? i only work 10 hours a week and have to wear a skirt everyday (i might need to go shopping). i'm really excited about this, i just hope i can pronounce the majority of the names, and i probably should know the presidents name as well.

just for your information i almost pee'd my pants when i watched this movie.

we met this girl, Britnee, in our ward who wanted to go hiking to Laie Falls. there was a big group of us that went on the hike, but we ended up breaking up into smaller groups. our group had a blast. we laughed the majority of the time. christina only fell twice and i managed to stay on my feet the whole time. part of the trail was extremely muddy which only added character to our journey. when we finally arrived at the falls christina, britnee, and i jumped in (see video above) and as you probably watched it was a bit of a shock. the water was probably at a glacial temperature. when we gained feeling in our bodies again this sweet girl from Fiji showed us strawberry guava fruit that we picked and ate right there, it was like a sour war head on a tree. on our walk back she showed us sugarcane, which is like eating sticks yet sucking out sugar. we were so exhausted, muddy, and bruised when we returned from out 10 mile excursion that we were to tired to shower. Survival of the Fittest

This weekend has been a series of unfortunate events, yet i am so happy they happened because it makes this adventure an adventure. on friday we went to dinner at the cafeteria and they said i didn't have anymore meals on my card for that week. i had been eating out with my mom that week so i knew that wasn't true so we pressured the girl until she let me in.

on saturday we went to the mall in Kaneohe and during our movie the fire alarm went off and we almost had to vacate the theater. we spent the rest of that night trying to figure out the laundry mat, laughing our way through a few loads, and roaming around the halls trying to finds someone who had movies and popcorn- we were successful in all departments.

today (sunday) we went to the hawaiian redbox to rent the LDS film Return With Honor,the movie got stuck in the machine and wouldn't come out. we were smacking and threatening to tip the machine over but decided to call the 1800 number instead. it was a local guy who owned the redbox and he said that the Lord probably didnt want us watching that movie, "but its an LDS movie" we were all laughing but nothing could be done so we moved on to our next activity. after our stroll down the beach we went to dinner at 6:30 and realized that dinner went from 5:00- 6:30. we ran in and were left with cereal and burnt toast! we had cereal for lunch so why not dinner? we went back to our room and ate saltines with PB&J. after our "meal" we waited around till our Hale 5 mandatory meeting (you get fined if you dont attend). refreshments were served after the meeting and it was like the first sight of a watering hole after a long drought. girls were running and crowding around the table that contained mystery desserts(it was to dark to see). its a good thing i'm taller then the majority of the people here so i reached in and grabbed whatever i could and passed it off to my roommate who scarfed it down with out even knowing what she was devouring. we were laughing so hard with two other girls, Lizzy and Alysha, who felt our desperation. its a jungle out here and our poor Hale mom came out into the open with a tray of cookies and was almost mauled by the hostile occupants of Hale 5. we learned today that only the strongest, or tallest, survive.

This picture is in front of the Aloha Center. I don't mean to make anyone jealous but this campus is beautiful. Everyday i see a spectacular sight, even if its raining. School is starting to crack down on me- meaning a lot of reading! I'm having a lot of fun down here and i laugh a lot with my roommate, Christina, and the people we have met from all over the WORLD, though a lot are from Utah. Our neighbor, Gifty, is from Ghana and one night she came in while we were decorating our room, with homemade crafts, and said "Holy Moses" at our creation. That made the quote wall along with other silly comments. My mama left today for the icy tundra aka Utah. Thanks mom for coming!

Hawaii!!! It is absolutely beautiful here! the mountains, beach, sun, flowers, water, and people are amazing. Campus is nestled into a picturesque cove with the jagged mountains and lush vegetation in the back drop, the Laie temple to the left (of my Hale), and the beach just a 10 min walk from the Aloha Center.

Since i have been here i have played more tourist then starving student. touring the island has been fun but a little stressful. not having a true map and knowledge of where we are going makes the journey longer then expected. for example today we started of in Kaneohe and took the Likelike highway (i highway that cuts through the mountain) to the Aloha stadium in Honolulu. when we saw the stadium on our left we took the first ramp on our right thinking it would take us to an exit. this was a lie because we ended up getting stuck on the H3 highway that took us through the same mountain pass all the way back to Kaneohe. we had to get back on the highway and head back the way we had just came. this has happened many times, and as a result we now drive in fear.

today we went to the outdoor market in the Aloha stadium. every thing is sold here from marijuana shirts, sarongs, rice-bag shorts to funnel cakes, coconut drinks, dried cuttlefish, pickled mango's, and other various food items. but i have to say that the highlight of my day was when we found the Puka Dog! Anthony Bourdain, a travel channel food critique, came to Waikiki beach in Honolulu in search of the best hot dog EVER! his taste buds found their satisfaction when they devoured this speciality dog, the Puka. after hearing him rave about Puka Dog we had to find and try one for ourselves. IT WAS PUKA-LICIOUS! what makes these hot dogs unique is the toasted canon buns, the garlic lemon secret sauce, 6 tropical relishes ( mango, pineapple, coconut, star fruit, papaya, and banana), and the lilikoi and guava mustard that is all squashed inside the canon bun. i got the star fruit with lilikoi, my mom got a pina colada style, and Christina (my roommate) got a pineapple lilikoi. sounds really disgusting but it was a wonderful combination of sweet, mustard, and crunchiness! we also got T-shirts which, when worn, will ensue free lemonade for the rest of our lives! at least i know that when in Honolulu we will never be thirsty.
